Retail Skills NVQ L2
This NVQ is aimed at those who work in a retail environment where they hold some responsibility and carry out a range of activities eg. an experienced sales assistant.
The NVQ involves completing six units, including one mandatory unit.
Mandatory Unit
- Work effectively in your retail team
Example of some of the optional units to choose from:
- Help to maintain health and safety in the retail environment
- Help to keep the retail unit secure
- Follow guidelines for dressing visual merchandising displays
- Display stock to promote sales to customers in a retail environment
- Receiving goods and materials into storage
- Keep stock on sale at required levels
- Provide information and advice to customers
- Process payments for purchases in a retail environment
- Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
Retail Skills NVQ L3
Designed for those who hold all or nearly all the responsibilities of running a retail store, this course is ideal for supervisors, assistant managers and store managers.
This course offers a choice of three pathways to suit your job role:
- Sales professional
- Management
- Visual Merchandising
The NVQ involves completing six units, including one mandatory unit.

- Work effectively in your retail organisation
Example of some of the Optional units to choose from:
- Plan, monitor and adjust staffing levels and schedules
- Help to manage a retail team
- Audit stock levels and stock inventories
- Evaluate the receipt of payments from customers
- Help to monitor and maintain the security of the retail unit
- Choose merchandise to feature in visual merchandising displays
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of retail operations
- Recruit, select and keep colleagues
- Allocate and check work in your team
- Provide a personalised sales and after sales service to your retail clients
Retail Apprenticeships - NVQ L2
Retail Apprenticeships provide work-based learning and development for 16 - 24 year olds. Retail apprentices work towards the following qualifications:
- Retail Skills NVQ L2
- Key Skills Qualifications: Communication L1 and Numeracy L1
- City & Guilds Certificate in Retailing L2

Retail Advanced Apprenticeships - NVQ L3
Retail Advanced Apprenticeships provide work-based learning and development for 16 - 24 year olds. Advanced apprentices work towards the following qualifications:

ABC Level 2 Diploma in Fashion Retail
This full time course will introduce you to the exciting world of fashion retailing. Modules include visual merchandising, fashion buying and fashion trends. Work placement will enable you to explore the fashion retail environment, and help you decide which area of retail you find the most stimulating.
To achieve the qualification you must complete all eight core units and four additional units from the lists below;

Entry Requirements
You should have an interest in working in the fashion retail sector. Work placement is an essential part of this course. You should have four GCSEs at grade D including English. Exceptions may be made in certain circumstances.
Progression
Further study (typically the ABC Level 3 Diploma in Retail Fashion or other FE courses, such as Business), Advanced Retail Apprenticeship or employment in a supervisory role within a fashion retail store.
